Huntington Beach is one of the easiest places in Southern California to vacation with kids. It has wide, sandy beaches and lots of parks, and Disneyland is only about 25 minutes away. Here's how to plan it.
Kid-friendly beaches
- Huntington State Beach. Wide sand, lifeguards, fire rings and restrooms. It's great for long beach days.
- Bolsa Chica State Beach. Calmer and more spread out, with easy parking.
- Near the Pier. Busy and fun for older kids who want to watch surfers.
Tip: Look for lifeguard towers and swim near them. Check the posted surf conditions each day.
Parks & outdoor fun
- Huntington Central Park. Playgrounds, lakes with ducks, trails and Adventure Playground in summer.
- Huntington Beach Sports Complex. Good for team tournaments. Many families stay nearby for weekend events.
- Bolsa Chica Wetlands. An easy, stroller-friendly walk with lots of birds to spot.
Disneyland as a day trip
Staying in Huntington Beach and driving to Disneyland is a popular strategy. You get the beach and the parks, more space and a quieter evening.
- Drive time: about 25 minutes via the 405/22 or Beach Blvd, longer at rush hour.
- Parking: park at the Disneyland Resort structures and take the tram. Arrive before opening for rope drop.
- Pace it: alternate park days with beach days so little legs can recover.
- Also nearby: Knott's Berry Farm (about 20–25 min) and the Aquarium of the Pacific (about 25 min).
Rainy-day & evening ideas
- A pool-table tournament and darts back at the house
- The International Surfing Museum
- A family BBQ under the pergola
- Movie night in the living room
